What is polypropylene FDY yarn? How is it different from DTY, POY, and BCF? How to choose?

Product Characteristics

polypropylene FDY yarn is a fully stretched yarn. During the spinning process, stretching and shaping are completed simultaneously, resulting in a stable yarn structure, less fuzz, a smooth appearance, uniform strength, and less shrinkage during weaving, making it suitable for products with high requirements for dimensional stability.

POY is a pre-oriented yarn, only completing the initial orientation, and its internal structure is not fully shaped. Generally, it is used as semi-finished raw material and is mostly used for subsequent processing, rarely directly woven into finished products.

DTY is a stretched and deformed yarn. On the basis of POY, it undergoes deformation processing, with a curled and elastic yarn body, a fluffy and soft feel, and good rebound performance.

BCF is a continuous long staple fiber with a high degree of fluffiness and good coverage. The finished product has a rich touch and is commonly used as raw material for carpets and decorative fabrics.

Selection Guide

FDY yarn has good shaping and a smooth surface, making it suitable for products that emphasize strength and flat appearance such as webbing, ropes, and industrial base fabrics.

POY is not recommended for direct use as end products. When enterprises have their own filament drawing and double twisting processing procedures, they can purchase POY as an intermediate raw material.

DTY has inherent crimp and elasticity, making it suitable for fabrics that require softness and elasticity. It is mostly used for decorative fabrics and soft woven products.

BCF focuses on the fluffy covering effect and is primarily used for carpets, floor coverings, and soft decorative fabrics.

Summary

When making a choice, prioritize checking whether secondary processing is required: for direct weaving into finished products and aiming for stable and flat yarns, choose polypropylene FDY yarn; for products with elastic and fluffy feel, choose DTY; for carpet production, choose BCF; only consider POY raw materials if you have subsequent processing equipment. At the same time, make a comprehensive judgment based on the usage environment, weaving process, and product requirements. Choosing the right raw material can reduce production defects and improve product quality.
